Harris Tweed

Harris Tweed, which is made in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, is one of the most sought after wool textiles in the world. Made on one island with two names, separated only by a mountain range - the islands of Lewis and Harris.
The story begins with pure new wool, which is blended together to take advantage of its unique quality and characteristics. The wool from which Harris Tweed is made comes mainly from herds kept on the mainland of Scotland. The island communities join together in early summer to shear the local sheep and add their locally grown wool to the mainland pruning.

Harris Tweed is the most famous fabric in the world and certainly the only one protected by a law of Parliament. Only the experienced artisans of the Outer Hebrides know how it is made and they are the only ones which are entiteled by the law to do so. Its design and production methods offer endless options in terms of weight, colours and fabric patterns that perfectly meet the requirements of today's fashion. The hand and eye skills which are neccessary for weaving the threads have been passed down through many generations and can only be found in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Magee

In 1866 John Magee started buying and selling hand-woven Donegal Tweed.
In 1910 Robert Temple, who took over the business from John Magee, started looking for weaving mills that should only weave for him.
In 1918 he opened his first weaving mill at the location where it is still located today.
In 1966 the weaving range was expanded to include an area for the production of clothing.

Today the Magee weaving mill specializes in luxury women's and men's clothing, bespoke made from Donegal Tweed.

Fepsa

FEPSA was founded in 1969 in S. João da Madeira, with the union of 6 industrials from hat industry with roots in the early 20th century, and is widely the consolidation of a very ancient industry in Europe, which in Portugal had a significant boost in the 18th century with Marquis of Pombal.

Felts for hats in FEPSA are produced by men and women whose knowledge and dedicated work compete in a universe of top quality products and services. Since the beginning we have had a constant concern with innovation, we have bet on technological development, on flexibility to respond to a wide variety of customers and we have adopted a series of different elements of production’s organization.

Felt is produced by the random arrangement of animal fibres on a surface, creating a mantle, and its felting by compression and vibration, under the action of water and heat.

This manufacturing process is known to mankind for thousands of years, and was one of the first manufacturing processes developed by humans. Felt has therefore a history almost as old as the history of man himself.

The role of the hat has been always a symbol of power and sovereignty, a sign of superiority, a social identification symbol. Felt hat distinguished people throughout history, defined personalities, created identities... and keeps on doing so.
